JORDAN
Jordan was born prematurely and struggled with addiction to meth and heroin at birth. He had five defects in his heart, along with pulmonary atresia and other complications. After his birth, he was placed in foster care and hospice. Despite these challenges, he continued to grow stronger and prove the doctors wrong.
Jordan was adopted at four months old, right after his first heart surgery. This initial surgery lasted 13 hours, and shortly after, he went into distress. The surgeons had to stop the procedure and leave his chest open for 48 hours until they could continue with another 13-hour surgery to complete the operation. Following this, he spent an additional two months in the hospital, where he was treated for drug withdrawal and contracted RSV.
After six months in the hospital, Jordan finally came home! However, shortly before his first birthday, he contracted norovirus, which spread to his heart and infected 90% of it, causing one of his valves to stop working. He underwent another 10-hour emergency surgery to clean out the infection and replace the damaged valve.
Now, at five years old, Jordan’s heart is doing fantastic. He will need more surgeries in the future to replace valves and the conduit that functions as a pulmonary artery, as it won’t grow with him.
